The new 2025 & 2026 Ram HD pickup trucks gain capability. Here is what’s going on. Let’s dig in!
We (at TFLtruck) have been very critical of Ram HD 2500 trucks over the years due to their relatively low payload numbers, specifically for their 2500 “3/4-ton” pickups. You agreed, and it appears Ram heard your comments and requests. Ram re-certified all new Ram HD 2500 Cummins turbo-diesel trucks and added 850 lbs to their payload. This is a big and much-needed boost. Ram also raised the GVWR and payload numbers for select Ram HD 3500 “1-ton” pickups and chassis cabs.
Here is an official statement from Ram Trucks:

This change does not affect maximum trailer towing ratings for this trucks. Ram HD lineup is already competitive in this category, but the additional payload rating provides more confidence and peace of mind for those who want to pull heavier trailers and carry heavier loads.
This GVWR and payload update applies to trucks that are manufactured after May 2025. This includes a number of 2025 model year trucks, and all 2026 model year trucks.
The Ram HD 2500 diesels and Ram HD 3500 2WD gas trucks now have a GVWR of 11,040 lbs. This is an increase from 10,190 lbs for the 2025 Ram HD 2500 diesels. Why could all 2025 Ram HD 2500s be rated this way from the beginning? We do not have all the details from Ram, but this change required a lot of re-testing and re-certifying. This takes time.
This Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and payload boost does not appear to have any hardware changes. This change has to do with Ram’s testing procedures and testing standards.
