It’s been quiet here at the Daily Car Blog over the Christmas festive season, but not for the Skoda Kodiaq, which has won the prestigious UK 4×4 of the Year award. I’ve never heard of this award, and frankly, I don’t care much about the Skoda Kodiaq or the accolade itself. Thankfully, something more intriguing has been happening: AC Cars, the legendary maker of the iconic AC Cobra, has announced upgrades to its GT Roadster and GT Coupe models.
Joining the existing naturally aspirated and supercharged V8 variants, a new high-performance 2.0-litre hybrid engine will be formally introduced next year for both open-top and fixed-roof models, with production set to begin from 2026 onward.
These new models will retain the aluminium chassis and carbon fibre bodywork but will incorporate additional weight-saving measures, including more extensive use of carbon fiber in critical chassis elements. Being inherently lighter than the V8 models, the hybrid versions promise enhanced agility alongside their performance upgrades.
The full engine specifications and power outputs will be revealed in spring 2025, with the new units expected to produce up to 390 bhp.
AC Cars has also announced the addition of a dual-clutch gearbox option to complement the performance of the engines. This new transmission will be offered alongside a six-speed manual option, giving customers a choice tailored to their driving preferences.
The developments reaffirm AC Cars’ commitment to innovation while preserving its legacy as a storied and active vehicle manufacturer.
