2025 Mercedes AMG E 53 Hybrid costs $89,150 with 42 miles of electric range

  • The 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG 5 53 Hybrid has 577 hp
  • Mercedes said the E 53 Hybrid has 42 miles of electric driving range and a DC fast-charge rate of up to 60 kw
  • The 2025 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Hybrid will cost $89,150 when it arrives this fall

Mercedes-Benz is adding a plug-in hybrid developed by its AMG performance division to the E-Class lineup.

Revealed in March, the 2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid reaches dealerships this fall with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 assisted by an electric motor, with a 21.2-kwh (usable) battery pack providing 42 miles of EPA-rated electric range. The E 53 is also capable of DC fast charging at up to 60 kw, and has a 9.6-kw onboard charger for AC charging.

This plug-in hybrid is really about performance, though. Its nominal output is 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, but an optional launch-control system (part of the AMG Dynamic Plus Package) provides a temporary boost to 604 hp. That allows for a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds (it’s 3.9 seconds otherwise), while the top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph by default, or 174 mph with the AMG Dynamic Plus Package.

Also expected to be used in an AMG GLE 53 Hybrid SUV, this powertrain is a step down in power and complexity from the one used in other AMG models like the C 63 S E Performance, which adds a 2-speed gearbox and electric motor at the rear and is currently paired with inline-4 or V-8 engines.

Beyond the powertrain, the E 53 has a stiffer body structure and wider track than the standard E-Class. All-wheel drive, adaptive suspension, and rear-wheel steering are standard, while the AMG Dynamic Plus Package adds composite brakes with 15.4-inch rotors and 6-piston calipers, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and dynamic engine mounts.

Pricing starts at $89,150 with the mandatory $1,150 destination fee. In addition to the AMG-specific powertrain and performance hardware, standard features include a 14.4-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a surround-view camera system.

Priced at $91,600 with destination, the Exclusive grade adds an upgraded Burmester audio system, active ambient lighting, and heated and noise insulating glass. The top Pinnacle grade adds a head-up display, four-zone climate control, and other features for $93,300.

AMG has launched a handful of all-electric models in addition to its plug-in hybrids. These are also based on existing Mercedes models, but the performance division is reportedly developing a bespoke electric supercar with styling from the Vision One-Eleven concept first shown in 2023.
