Unique gift ideas for truck lovers

Factory service manuals

When I was growing up, automotive parts stores had repair manuals for vehicles lining the walls. These books from Chilton or Haynes manuals would show you step by step how to replace parts often with pictures or part diagrams. They could make any truck owner look a lot smarter than they were about fixing their own truck.

These manuals slowly vanished as trucks got more complex and the feeling now is you can’t repair your truck anymore. What if I told you that wasn’t actually the case?

I was shocked to discover these manuals still do exist and you can get them digitally. I found one company called Factory Manuals that offers a large variety of service manuals for around $70 for many vehicles.

Just visit the website, put in the year, make and model of the vehicle, place your order, download it and boom your Father’s Day shopping is done. Yeah, it is a digital gift. But, these manuals are thousands of pages long. Can you imagine trying to hand him that heavy book in a box?

ScreenProTech

One of my surprise favorite items this year I’ve tested out is the ScreenProTech screen protectors for digital dashes and infotainment screens.

These protectors are a plastic film that you apply with a soap solution to the screen to protect it from accidental damage and to keep fingerprints off the screen. Plus, they can help reduce the glare on a sunny day.

Also, the screen gets a more tactical feel. This is nice when you are doing something like changing the station while driving. Your finger doesn’t slip around as much without the screen protector.

I’ve installed them on both of my trucks I own right now. They are a good investment IMO especially with replacement screen prices running into the thousands of dollars.

Keep Car Alarm security system

One of the more innovative security systems I’ve seen in years is the Keep Car Alarm. I had the opportunity to install one on our long-term test model Ram 1500 RHO truck.

It is a connected car alarm that fits in a cup holder. After locking it into place, running the power cord to the truck’s OBDII port and downloading the app, the Keep Car Alarm is basically installed.

The car alarm will monitor the vehicle for intruders looking in the windows and record them via a built-in video camera and upload the footage to the cloud (monthly subscription required). If they try to enter the vehicle, two 120 dB sirens go off, the device emits a flashing red light and the unit records them on video. This should deter many thieves looking for a convenient item/s to steal.

XPEL Ultimate Cleaning Kit

Trucks have gotten more expensive and with that comes more of an emphasis on keeping them looking good. Gone are the days of letting your new truck get filthy as a badge of honor or to show you “really use it.”

This is especially the case with the higher-end trucks with expensive paint jobs that can be damaged going through even so-called touch-less car washes.

The trend now is to wash and detail your truck at home and companies like XPEL, known for their paint protection film and ceramic coating business, have expanded into offering cleaning supplies.

They sent me their Ultimate Cleaning Kit with a selection of ready to go spray bottles filled with pre-mixed fluids for specific cleaning jobs. Also, it contained my new favorite toy, the Big Foam cannon. Attaching this to a power washer and filling up a 3.5 ounce reservoir bottle with soap, it provides both a professional level of soap application but also brings out the 10-year-old boy in men.

Check out the video above on this kit and be sure to read the description with a full list of products they are offering sales on. You can buy things separately or go for the whole kit.
